Comptroller Hegar Recognizes Fiscal Accountability

"Our office is proud to introduce a new Transparency Star saluting local governments for open government and compliance."

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas Since 2016, the Comptroller’s Transparency Stars program has recognized local governments that provide clear and meaningful financial information by posting financial documents, thorough summaries, visualizations, downloadable data and other relevant information.
"Our office is proud to introduce a new Transparency Star saluting local governments for open government and compliance."

Existing star categories include traditional finances, contracts and procurement, economic development, public pensions and debt obligations.

Other new program features include enhanced requirement flexibility, improved scoring methodology and streamlined webinars on applying for each star.

By connecting the public to these resources, these governments achieve credibility with their constituents and stakeholders and earn distinction as models of transparency.

The new star is one of several that requires up-to-date and timely submissions of statutorily mandated transparency reporting, a good-government practice that indirectly leads to taxpayer savings.
