MOORE: Roll Tide Roll – Alabama Moves Forward with School Choice

The governor says she'll sign the bill if it gets through the Alabama Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Texas Insider Report) — An effort to dramatically expand school choice options in Alabama – which would allow public education dollars to follow children into private school, homeschooling, and help pay other educational costs – was passed by the state House of Representatives on a margin of 69-34. Pitifully, ALL 28 Democrats voted "no," even though low-income and minorities are by far the biggest beneficiaries of school choice.

The bill PRIORITIZES low-income families and kids with disabilities.

It looks like Alabama may get this done before Georgia – where a similar bill is stalled.

HB129 would provide eligible families $7,000 in state tax dollars per student to pay for the cost of educating their child in a participating school or for other eligible expenses. ESAs would become available at the start of the 2025-26 school year.

The governor says she will sign the bill if it gets through the Alabama Senate.

As one of our Georgia activists and a lifelong Bulldog moaned: “Alabama beats Georgia again.”
