Rep. Tony Gonzales, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Team Up to Tackle Spiraling Border Crisis

"Representing over 40% of the nation's Southern Border, I know the struggles that Border Communities, Border Patrol Agents and Law Enforcement Officers face."

AUSTIN, Texas (Texas Insider Report) — On Wednesday evening, South Texas Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick hosted a Town Hall Event to update Texans on the current crisis at the Southern Border. Gonzales and Patrick agreed that the border crisis is “the worst we’ve ever seen,” and discussed a number of solutions like H.R. 2, which Republicans say is the strongest border security legislation in history.

The bill was passed by the House, and is currently awaiting consideration by the U.S. Senate – where Senate Democrats and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer are coming under increasing pressure to move the legislation in order to address the national crisis.

Lt. Gov Patrick (right,) also praised Cong. Gonzales for his work in Congress, saying:

“To Congressman Gonzales's constituents, you’ve got a great Congressman. He’s the real deal, and he works hard on your behalf all the time – you’re lucky to have him.”

The town hall comes as U.S. Customs & Border Patrol reported a single day record high of 12,000 migrant encounters along the nation's Southern Border on Tuesday.

Reports are that migrant facilities in Eagle Pass are over 5 times above capacity, with facilities in Del Rio and Laredo facing similar overcrowding.

Congressman Gonzales also spoke briefly about the need to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas – an effort he spearheaded in Congress last month with other House Republicans.

Gonzales represents Texas’ 23rd Congressional District, which includes over 800 miles of the U.S.-Mexico Border.
