Obama Slashes Border Fence, Endangering Texas’ Security

AUSTIN—The Obama administration Thursday unveiled a budget blueprint that fails to fund extension of the popular border fence that stretches across nearly a third of the border that the United States shares with Mexico.  This despite the fact that according to polls, a heavy majority of Texans and Americans support completing the fence as a way to cut down on crimes such as drug trafficking and illegal immigration.

“The Obama administration is once again showing that its priorities are out of sync with Texas and the country as a whole on serious security issues,” said Texas Republican Party Chairman Tina Benkiser.  “About two-thirds of Americans support completing the border fence, but the Democrats in Washington have instead chosen to halt it.

While the administration is touting a small but welcome increase in overall border security spending, it ought to focus on common-sense items like the fence that Texans are very much in favor of, and without which we are all left at risk.  It’s high time President Obama and his allies here in Texas got the message that we have to secure our border, and completing the fence is key to that.”

Along with halting construction of the border fence, the Obama budget also slashes $400 million in funds to states that have to jail aliens suspected of committing crimes, leaving states to clean up another border-related problem that the federal government has created.

Drug cartel violence in Mexico has spiraled out of control in recent months, claiming nearly 8,000 lives and sparking a wave of kidnappings inside the United States.  As a senator in 2006, Obama was one of 80 senators who voted to construct the border fence, which now stretches across less than 700 of the nearly 2000 mile US-Mexico border.

The Obama budget includes only $17 billion in total budget cuts, despite a campaign promise to go through the federal budget line-by-line and root out unnecessary spending.  The president’s budget, the largest in US history, calls for an estimated $3.5 trillion in spending, and will double the national debt in just five years

The fence is a bit waste of money, tramples on Texan’s property rights, further endangers wildlife and won’t work. This is something I whole heartedly agree with the new administration on. Now if we can only — really — end Rick Perry’s Trans-Texas Corridor, not to mention his reelection effort.

I am not surprised to hear this. This president is not at all interested in national security as it is evident by him cutting the military budget. As it was with Bush, he wants globalization at all costs. If Austin doesn’t do something, Texans need to get used to paying for illegal immigrant health care, education, and welfare like we have for the last 20 plus years. Like the old saying goes, “If you want something done right, do it yourself.” I say Texans need to secure our borders, crack down on employers hiring illegals, and outlaw free medical, education, and welfare for them. Get serious Texas before we end up like California!

How about a bounty for every illegal turned in to the INS. We should have most of them rounded up within a year.

poor author, he seems conflicted.

First he complains, “The Obama administration Thursday unveiled a budget blueprint that fails to fund extension of the popular border fence that stretches across nearly a third of the border that the United States shares with Mexico. ”

But, then, to end the article, “The Obama budget includes only $17 billion in total budget cuts, despite a campaign promise to go through the federal budget line-by-line and root out unnecessary spending.”

Does this really surprise anyone? The “O” Administration will do anything they can to boost their voting base. Let’s look at granting citizenship to 12 million Illegals and a vote is part of that package. So why hinder the flow of fresh votes with their hand out for our money, I’m sure ACORN will have them registered in short order.

A believe that if the Federal Government refuses to do their Constitutional Duty to protect our Southern Border, then the State of Texas should step up to the plate and build the fence on our own. I for one would volunteer to do some of the work myself if it means a quick resolution to this problem. I am also mad at our Texas House of Representatives who refuse to represent the people of Texas on this matter. This session is almost over and they have successfully passed any decisions regarding Illegal Immigration on to future Legislative Sessions. To all our Texas Legislators: Do your job or step down and let someone who cares about Texas and Texans take your place.

God Bless Texas!

a quote from a liar:
I speak in the name of the entire German people when I assure the world that we all share the honest wish to eliminate the enmity that brings far more costs than any possible benefits… It would be a wonderful thing for all of humanity if both peoples would renounce force against each other forever. The German people are ready to make such a pledge.”
Adolf Hitler – 14th October 1933

a quote from a fool:
This is a sad day for all of us, and to none is it sadder than to me. Everything that I have worked for, everything that I have believed in during my public life, has crashed into ruins. There is only one thing left for me to do: That is, to devote what strength and powers I have to forwarding the victory of the cause for which we have to sacrifice so much… I trust I may live to see the day when Hitlerism has been destroyed and a liberated Europe has been re-established.”
Neville Chamberlain – 3rd September 1939

This is what happens when fools listen to liars.

As far as Linda Curtis statement above – you’ve lost your mind.
What wildlife will be left when the drug cartels eat them for lunch and dinner. I suggest you move out of Texas. We don’t want you here. Obama is a traitor and a communist.
Impeach him now.
Oh and I and all of my friends WILL be voting to re-elect Perry at least he has the backbone to stand up to these criminals in Washington.

It’s funny that over 150 years later that the roles are in reverse. Now it’s the white people screaming about the Mexicans coming into Texas illegally!. How many of you are actually intelligent enough to read history and remember it was the white people that began to come into Texas illegally (which was Mexico at that time)
…but then again you probably don’t remember because truth and fact is not part of our history books in school

I believe Obama IS a plant and taking orders from someone! He deifinitely meets all the descriptions of the terrorists we are fighting! We need to continue the fight for the fence to be built and completed—demand more security for our borders, send all illegals home and absoltely NO AMNESTY! Obama needs to be exposed for the treasonist traitor that he is and be impeached along with Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, Rangel, Waters and all the others who have helped himon his agend of weakiening and destroying this country!

Mike: What is the point you are making? Do you want to give Texas back to Mexico? “Our”ancestors came to America when only the indians were here! Should we give all the land back to the indians? It’s part of our history, as is what happened in history when Texas became a part of the union. At present, because of past history that happened in Texas, we are Texans and Americans—not “illegals”!

I agree 100% with SLK!! Texas should exercise our STATE RIGHTS and build the border fence between Texas and Mexico!
We don’t want the illegal aliens here taking jobs from Texans.

We don’t want Kay Bailey Hutchison to be governor, since she worked to scuttle the building of the border fence. Rick Perry is a much better governor and should be re-elected. I’m sure the only reason Obama is for amnesty is for the illegals votes to perpetuate himself as our ‘king’! Like SLK points out, he must be a plant and I’m guessing from Saudi Arabia. Since he will NOT produce his birth certificate, I feel sure he was born in Kenya. Also, at his age, it would be interesting to find out if he registered for the U.S. draft when he became 18 years old.
That should be easy to find out.

BUILD THE FENCE – send the lawbreaking criminals back to their own countries. They cost U.S. taxpayers too much money for schools, medical care, jail housing, etc.

The fence as I have seen it at Del Rio, Texas is 1000% better than the cane breaks and broken barb wire that use to be there! It would take a tank to go thru and it gives a very clean area for security. They don’t put fences this well around prisons. It would take an IDIOT not to approve fencing. Guess what? Texas has had a fence on the border for many years against tick infested livestock crossin our border! It works.

Quick history lesson, Mike. Those bad white people were known as “Texians” and were invited to settle in this region by the Mexican government.

The Mexican government was broke after its war against Spain. The invited settlers came, then Mexico began to extort taxes while basically providing no services. We all know how well that goes over, and what followed was the Texas War of Independence.

After Santa Anna was defeated, a treaty was signed, granting ownership of the land to the newly formed Republic of Texas.

Hence, as owners of the land, we have the right to invite any guests of our choosing. Invited guests are welcome to stay, but the uninvited will be asked to leave.

What Mike does not know or want to admit is that the Texians were here legally. Also, after the Mexican government became oppressive, not only the Texians, but also the local Mexicans, such as Juan Seguin, fought for independence. Stephen Austin had a contract to colonize Texas. Get your facts straight Mike.

This whole border issue is a nightmare. e must secure our border and we as native Texans know this better than many as we have to live with the constant worry about what is coming across. Not only is it dangerous but puts a tremendous financioal burden on the taxpayers of the state. People that are not promoting a secure border are fools. Our enemies look at it as an easy way to get to us and what better place than in Texas. We are for the most part capable of being self contained as a state if need be. They could hit us hard and we must be prepared for this as I feel the day of reckoning is soon to be here.KBH is a joke and not sure about Perry yet he did take a stand but not sure if he is for real are just taking this position to secure his re-election

Mike, Texas won it’s Independence from Mexico. WON. Okay? So what is your point? Not only should we secure our border, we should have LAW ENFORCEMENT picking up illegals and deporting them back to Mexico on a daily basis. I wish the stupid bleeding hearts would shut up. So what if they have job? So what if they are poor? So what if their children don’t get a good education in Mexico? BO flip flops on all the issues and on this one he wants the votes….just open the door and let them all in AND give them FREE EVERYTHING!!! I have said this before and I will say it again: YOU LIBS ARE RUINIING AMERICA!

It seems that in all the discussion above the main point regarding Obama reneging on his previous commitment to fund border protection has been lost. This should be very disturbing to every Texas citizen and all Americans!
FIRST: Texas citizens should be very concerned about our hospitals and social services (state and otherwise) and Texas becoming another California. The State of CA is basically bankrupt and a large number of hospitals have already closed due to illegal aliens receiving free health care with the hospitals forced to absorb those costs.
SECOND: Texans and all Americans should be equally concerned that if we don’t close the borders it is only a matter of time before terrorists bring some catastrophic destruction to the USA via Mexico. For Obama to ignore the fact that our borders with Mexico are an open pipeline for terrorists, drugs, murderers, etc. is ignorant.
WANT TO MAKE A CHANGE? Call or email your legislators and tell them what you think. It’s easy to find them and they do listen to what you say. THEN SUPPORT and VOTE someone into office that will do something!!! All this talk won’t get the right folks into office – it takes all of us – VOTING!

my neighbor and i get along very well. i have a fence. we each know where it is. we each respect it. i don’t go on his side — he doesn’t come on mine. this fence was not paid for by other people in the neighbohood. if it had been , then they could tell us what to do in reguard to it. if he should decide to cross this fence, he knows what might happen. by the same measure, if he should like to come in the gate and visit me, he’s more than welcome. hope this isn’t too deep for you.
