Age of Propaganda – End of Main Stream Media

By Denise McNamara

Just tune in to MSNBC. You will not hear news; you will hear propaganda. The same can be said for CNN, Headline News, and ABC, CBS, and NBC. FoxNews has a reputation for being biased to the right, although I have never heard their hard-news reporters slant a story. Most news reports, however, whether they are in the New York Times or the Dallas Morning News, are noticeably slanted.

We are living in the age of propaganda. And it is causing the downfall of newspapers and mainstream media across the country. In a recent speech to my Republican Women’s club, Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams, when asked about media bias, said he is not worried. He pointed out that new media is taking over. And he is right.

Contrary to the views of Anderson Cooper and Katie Couric, most Americans are not progressive (the new euphemism for liberal). We don’t believe that marriage should be re-defined as a union between two persons of the same sex. We don’t believe that our daughters should be allowed to obtain the “morning-after pill” when they are minors.

We don’t want government schools unduly influencing the values of our children. Yet, we and our children are bombarded with the message that we are “uncool” if we don’t agree with these politically correct viewpoints. And the pressure is growing daily, especially for our youth.

Donald Trump’s Miss USA Pageant drove the point home last week when gay blogger Perez Hilton posed the question to Miss California about whether she believed in same-sex marriage. According to Hilton, Miss Prejean lost the crown because of her personal opinion, based on her religious beliefs, that marriage should be between one man and one woman.

She was first runner-up; she is now a conservative star. Since when do we tolerate religious bigotry against a beauty contestant who states her personal opinion? Evidently, that time has come.

Fortunately, most Americans have plugged in to the “new media.” Online news sites and blogs provide more detailed, objective reporting than traditional media sources. Consumers have choices when it comes to obtaining their information, and main stream media is suffering to the point of bankruptcy.

And while I will miss having a hard copy of a traditional newspaper to read, I can’t say that they deserve to remain in business. They have brought this on themselves, and unless they present all sides in an objective fashion, they do not warrant our patronage. It is a shame, but the media elite have lost touch with mainstream America. There is a growing divide, and new media fills that gap. RIP MSM.

My husband and I have had this very same conversation for a while now. You are 100% on track with your observations and comments regarding the media. We are also frightened by those folks who take everything they see or hear as “truth” and make no effort to think on their own or come to an educated conclusion after the fact.

The problem with America is it cannot handle the TRUTH. I feel the biases in the Media has led us down this road to destruction. I cancelled my DMN subscription. I encourage everyone to do so and subscribe to the WSJ.

Great article Denise. You hit the nail on the head with this one. We need to really consider who we give our time and money to these days.

I cancelled the Houston Chronicle after they supported Sheila Jackson Lee, saying that if Obama won, she would gain a lot of power in the House. SJL is the worst, and the best the Chronicle would do is that she would have a lot of power? I miss the sports section, but I make do online. Newspapers deserve to go under and I don’t have any sympathy for them.

Absolutely correct! The worst part is that too many people in our country seem to be brain dead and cannot think for themselves and therefore, are very easily swayed by anything they hear or read(that is, if they can read). We live in such a culture of celebrity and lionization of anyone who is in the media whether they be newsreporters or tv or movie “stars”. The aforementioned people seem to be regarded as vip replacements for God in the lives of many of our badly educated citizens.

I couldn’t agree with you more. It is so hard to sit in front of TV these days. We need more articles like yours and the others on the Texas Insider to keep us informed!

This article hit the spot. Big cities are monopolized by one newspaper, Big owners of newspapers coast to coast are dictating liberal swill every day, Editorial pages are dominated by chosen out of town liberals, and the business end of the papers are run by children, Sports is dominated by old line writers who suport their favorite teams and players, Religion sections go out of their way to publizize Islan, Budiaism, minor Christian churchs and avoid publisizing the major Churches in town.

Internet and radio are the only source of stright news. Magazines are following the newspappers path and TV has lost its audience unless you are interested in Crime/weater disasters/ or weird sex. Look to the ownership of Media to identify the problem!!!

You ain’t just whistlin’ dixie. It’s pathetic. I cancelled my subscription to the San Antonio Express News right after their endorsement of Sen McCain on 19 October 2008, not because they feigned a conservative position, but because their coverage leading up to the general election was so enormously slanted in Obama’s favor that I couldn’t trust anything they ever published again. They endorsed McCain out of business necessity, even though this town is majority hispanic, they know who pays the bills.

RIP MSM indeed! Maybe the switch to the new media will open the eyes to some of the brain dead kool-aid swilling sheeple that their messiah and his cronies are going to crush this county unless they are stoppped.

I use to watch all these liberal news channils (NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, and CNN) until one day I watched Glenn Beck on Fox news, and felt very strongly that he was telling it like it was! I would rather watch that news channel than any of the others. All they seem to be doing these days is reporting fairy tales about this administration, and showing their huge love affair with this Amti-American President who is out to destroy America!

We need to break the backs of the MEDIA. We start with a grassroots effort to have every conservative cancel their newspaper and magazine subscriptions (unless they are fair in their reporting, i.e. WSJ). After that, we need to encourage our like-minded friends to stop watching news outlets that slant their opinions to the left. Next, we need to send a message to Hollywood and boycott their movies that attack family values,

In my travels around the country and talking to ‘perfect strangers’ in public places, I’ve been encouraged by the fact that so many, in fact nearly everyone I talk with, gets the fact that the news papers and broadcast media are biased and not reporting news anymore but are simply trying to brain wash the American Public into accepting the liberal agenda as the only sensible and compassionate thing to do. These people I talk to are basic American people who may not be celebrities, rich, famous, or ’somebody’ in the news media’s eyes, but they are like me, and they aren’t letting the ‘liberal news media’ pull the wool over their eyes any longer. They are aware of it, they are mad about it, they fear that many people are being swayed by it, but they are clinging to their right to believe what they believe and that’s what the news media can’t stand. Wolfe, Katie, Cooper, Leno, Letterman, Oprah and so many of the rest of them are disgusted by our stubbornness in holding onto our basic family values and beliefs that are supported by our history, the bible, and world history. They don’t seem to recognize that they might be wrong.

The fact they it was them and their bosses who have created this mass adoration for socialism that this administration is so set on pushing down our throats and causing the current economic situation with all the BAD NEWS they hawked during the Bush Administration, the demands they made that lenders GIVE AWAY money to people unqualified to pay it back, their support of unions who demanded more and more perks and unrealistic pay when their products were overpriced and unrealisticly inflated to support the non-workers, retirees, and company executives who were supporting the candidates on the Democrat ticket.

Now, since so many of us are not falling for the shim-sham policies, they are determined to make us pay. They will now try and criminalize our thoughts when we disagree with them. I believe that we are not safe from their prosecution and it’s evident in the recent Miss America situation. They can, as Perez Hilton did, cuss us out, call us names, and in general act like spoiled brats, and that’s OK, but if we ever resorted to those same tactics, we would be vilified and have been. Just because we disagree with the liberal left.

And they wonder why their bottom line is shrinking.

Many popular shows are used as propaganda vehicles. While it is true the many overt propaganda messages are delivered via political shows there is an more insidious method being employed
by more sophisticated publishers. CBS is the worst I’ve noticed so far. They pretend to support the police and government, but really espouse a Godless, nihilist one world government. They equate free thinkers , such as Ayn Rand and Adam Smith as some kind of dangerous radicals. All the while painting communists, abortionist and leftists as moral, right thinkers. Most of the innocents that watch these politically pornographic horse dramas are unaware that their minds are being washed and dumbed down to the point they don’t even know their brains have been sucked out.

Yes, the propaganda machine has gone into overdrive since Gov Perry publicly voiced his support for a resolution in the Texas legislature demanding the federal government act within the bounds of the Constitutional authority granted to it. At a tea-party a reporter asked Perry about secession and HCR 50 (the above mentioned resolution which does not even mention secession), Perry said that there was no reason to dissolve the Union, but if the federal government continues to snub its nose at the people and continually interfere in state-affairs where they are not permitted, “you never know what might happen down the road.”
both the right and left wingers in the mainstream media have somehow interpreted his lack of condemnation of secession, as a call for secession. The right is trying to make Perry look like a patriot, while the left seeks to turn this into a racial issue and labeling Texans unAmerican. Based solely on something that never happened, to push their ideological agendas. Trust No One.
