Farney: SBOE Should Have Sought AG Opinion First – And Should Proceed with Caution
By Dr. Marsha Farney
Texas Insider Report: Austin, Texas – “Last Friday’s vote by the State Board of Education to proceed with consideration of funding Charter School facilities using the Permanent School Fund gives me concern for several reasons. The action was contrary to the advice of the Board’s financial counsel.
“Also, there is a substantial question whether the action was within the Board’s authority, a question the Attorney General will need to decide.
As there is a reasonable possibility that the Attorney General will conclude the Board lacks such authority, I believe it would have been more prudent to first seek that opinion before proceeding.”
“I do applaud the efforts of the Board to be innovative in seeking a solution to this problem. I am a strong supporter of Charter Schools, and indeed all public schools.
I would recommend we continue to work with the House & Senate Education Committees to find a solution to the facility funding needs of our Charter Schools.
“If I become a Board member, I would intend to work closely with these committees and my Senator and good friend, Senate Finance Chairman Steve
Ogden, to seek a real solution to the issue of Charter School facility financing.”
“If the Attorney General were to conclude that the Board has a role to play in this area, I still believe the Board should consider the matter with caution.
“Our focus should be to take care that 100% of the Permanent School Fund investments are always working to receive the highest investment return for the public school children of Texas. If I am elected, I will certainly do everything I can to make that happen.”

I’m going to watch every action and decision that Dr. Marsha Farney makes. I voted for Brian Russell and against her. I just visited her website that declares she answered all her survey questions from the Texas Right to Life PAC questionnaire and was graded as 100% pro-life. There’s more to being Christian and conservative than pro-life issues.
I hope she’s not just another pretty face with a moderate mind behind it much like Carly Fiorina in California, who at best is a moderate Republicrat. It seems the Republicrats are putting forth these kind of women because they think it’s what the public wants and it’s good strategy for defeating the DEMONcrats. The Republican women I admire are Jan Brewer, Michelle Bachman and Nikki Haley (running for governor of South Carolina).

Mr. Archer, you forgot to include Debbie Medina. While she lost out to the moneyed Perry and Hutchinson she is on par with Brewer, Bachman, etc.

I am sorry that Cynthia Dunbar is leaving, and I also voted for Brian Russell to take Dunbar’s place. As to Marsha’s message of caution to the SBOE, that is one group who are very conservative and cautious. I will also be watching Dr. Farney’s decisions.

Goodwater, I am not ashamed to declare that I voted for Debra Medina in the Republican primary for the governor’s race. I believe that Rick Perry is a career politician and have documented that thoroughly a couple of times on this website. With that being said, I’ll vote for Perry instead of Bill White. I live in the greater Houston area and know all about Bill White and his tenure as the mayor of Houston.
Brenda, Ms. Cynthia Dunbar needs to be placed alongside the women I mentioned above. Debra Medina is an unusual lady. I haven’t completely figured her out regarding her stances on all the issues that we peasants need to know about in order to conduct our lives in service to our government masters. I truly have only one Master and He sits in heaven on His throne.

Sharron Angle in Nevada is also another noteworthy conservative lady. I support her financially.
