We engage in an enormous amount of trade each year, about $800 billion in total. Nearly $300 billion of that is between the United States and Texas alone. Texas and Mexico have long had an intertwined history. We share culture, family, and significant economic ties. As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, I have been especially vigorous in leading the fight for more trade between the United States and Mexico, and in particular, advocating for building more bridges between South Texas and Mexico.

To help combat a critical criminal issue in the Texas energy industry – the theft of petroleum products – the Railroad Commission is now accepting applications for membership on the State Taskforce on Petroleum Theft (STOPTHEFT).The task force was created in Senate Bill 494 passed by the 89th Legislature, with the aim to study and make recommendations related to preventing petroleum theft.
Following the horrific shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis that killed two children and wounded 18 others, Mayor Jacob Frey (D) said of the self-proclaimed transgender woman: "Anybody who is using this as an opportunity to villainize our trans community or any other community out there has lost their sense of common humanity. We should not be operating out of a place of hate for anyone." It was a shocking comment as parents and others mourned the dead and injured.

After its economy was in literal rubbles after World War 2, Germany had a miraculous comeback in the ‘50s, 60’s and 70’s and became the economic powerhouse of Europe again. The great economic historian, Mancur Olson, wrote an award-winning book called “The Rise and Decline of Nations,” which explained that Germany’s economy was so destroyed they did not have a welfare state and politically powerful unions to contend with as most European nations and Britain did.
Last year, Commissioner Christian convened the Lone Star Growth Summit with state agencies and industry leaders to examine Texas’ long-term infrastructure needs. With the population expected to nearly double to 54 million by 2050, Christian stressed the importance of building pipelines, power generation, refining, and water projects to keep pace with growth. "We need more of them—both energy and water—to meet the needs of a rapidly growing Texas.”

Governor Greg Abbott ceremonially signed Texas' Make America Healthy Again legislation - Senate Bill 25, Senate Bill 314, and Senate Bill 379 - into law.
