Rising Border Violence: Cornyn Leads Effort to Address
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, Ranking Member on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Refugees and Border Security Subcommittee, today wrote to Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., requesting a committee hearing as soon as possible to investigate the rising violence along our southern border, especially in light of the recent murders of two U.S. citizens with ties to the American Consulate in Ciudad Juarez.
Sen. Cornyn’s letter was signed by fellow members of the Judiciary Committee, Sens. Orrin Hatch, Jeff Sessions, Lindsey Graham, Chuck Grassley, Jon Kyl, and Tom Coburn. Today’s letter comes as senior Administration officials meet to discuss the situation with Mexican officials in Mexico City.
Of the meeting in Mexico City, Sen. Cornyn said, “I’m glad to see the President and his Administration acknowledge that the cartel violence along the border represents a real security concern for the United States and have reached out to our friends in Mexico to hear how we can continue to coordinate our efforts to address this issue. We must also do more here in the United States to address the ongoing violence in neighboring border towns and adopt a proactive approach that will give immediate resources to state and local law enforcement in affected border communities.”
Sen. Cornyn continued, “I’m hopeful Chairman Leahy will agree to schedule a hearing as soon as possible to help identify the security needs and priorities for our border communities. I also urge the President to accept my invitation to visit the border region with me to hear firsthand from state and local officials who deal directly with these security challenges on a daily basis.”

Dear Chairman Leahy:
We were saddened and outraged to learn about the recent murders of two U.S. citizens in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. The victims, who were affiliated with the American consulate there, appear to have been targeted by violent drug cartels.
This crime was not an isolated incident. In recent weeks, we have received reports of escalating violence along the border, including some spillover violence in border communities in the United States. Moreover, there is a growing concern that violent drug cartels have increased their efforts to threaten, harass, and bribe U.S. border officials.
We intend to approach this issue in a constructive, bipartisan manner. In that spirit, we respectfully request that the Committee schedule a hearing to take testimony from Administration officials and experts on the situation in Mexico. A hearing would provide an opportunity to assess the Administration’s strategy to address this crisis and whether sufficient resources are being provided to federal, state, and local law enforcement along the border.
The safety of our citizens is of the utmost concern to us, and we intend to work together to ensure that the federal government is doing everything in its power to protect our border communities.
Sincerely,
JOHN CORNYN

I just got back from Nuevo Progresso.
The economy is booming …………………………..200 drugstores,50 dentists all serving Americans most Senior Citizens who have found a better health care plan. Average
wait to see a good dentist is one and a half hours. Of course it iworth it because you are saving at least a $100 an hour for waiting
Oh and that crap about safe ……………………………medicines and sanitary conditions.
If one winter TEXAN got sick in one day everyone would know.
And that hasn’t happened in the 22 years I have been saving money and getting excellent products down there.
The Mexican Navy (rangers) are very visible and things are mellow.
The only thing Obama wants to fix in Mexico is the flow of $$$$ out of the USA.
We need to send Joe Biden down instead of Hilary. Joe could show them how smart our politicians are.
Believe me the Mexicans that want to work and be successful are doing it.
The rest are coming to America.

Nice collection of RINO’s. Wonder why they could not get Sen McCain to sign on with this bunch.
I have written Sen Cornyn often on this, he told me often that employers don’t have a way to determine if a person is an illegal or not, I say bull. The people hiring illegals, know they are hiring illegals and intended to hire illegals.
My last job required that I prove that I was a legal Citizen, I had to show my birth certificate or a passport or other document of this type, my retired military ID was not acceptable.
Put the onus on the employer, if he hires an illegal, put him in jail and pick up all the illegals he has hired.
We also got into a discussion about how it was terrible that they did not have sufficient health care, gee, that is to bad. Where is their own responsibility in this, their is none, I did not tell them to come here and have kids, I did not tell them to come here period.
This bunch is not on the side of Americans or the Conservatives and I don’t support them and won’t send them money for any reason. They are RINO’s, the problem.

Beeg John Cornyn, as usual, is being the “tough” conservative on matters that he knows he will not win. Wonder why he and McConnell were not this aggressive prior to Christmas on the ObamaCare debate. He talks like a conservative, but he is a left leaning RINO and needs to be removed from the US Senate.

Cornyn talks out of both sides of his mouth when you call about amnesty! We really need to keep the heat on him when this debaucle gets before Congress. He will NOT have my vote !hen he runs again…if he votes for amnesty, or anything except enforcement only.
I have hope for KBH…she has nothing to lose by voting for Americans, not illegals.
And, unfortunately we have no one running for governor that will be on the side of Americans, not illegals
GOD BLESS AMERICA
