Hutchison Introduces Motion to Send Health Care Bill Back to Committee, Prevent Unfair Taxes and Fees on Americans
“This is a classic example of a bait and switch.”
– Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In an effort to stem billions of dollars in tax increases that would begin in several weeks and to improve transparency in the health care debate, U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) today introduced a motion with U.S. Senator John Thune (R-SD) that would send the government-run health care legislation back to the Senate Finance Committee with instructions that no taxes or fees be imposed on American families and businesses until the supposed benefits of the bill have begun.
“The Democrats’ government-run health care proposal will levy taxes on virtually every American and business in this country during a time when we’re in one of the worst economic downturns in recent memory,” Senator Hutchison said. “In an attempt to mask the massive cost of this legislation, the Democrats impose these taxes on prescription drugs, medical devices, and business as soon as next month. But astoundingly, it’s only after four years of these taxes that the supposed reforms to the health insurance market will take effect. This is a classic example of a bait and switch,” Hutchison said. “I’m outraged the Democrats would even attempt to tax the American people without offering anything in return for four years, and my motion is a critical step in making sure that doesn’t happen.”
Senator Hutchison’s motion requests that the Senate move “to commit the bill (H.R. 3590) to the Committee on Finance with instructions to report the same back to the Senate with changes to align the effective dates of all taxes, fees, and tax increases levied by such bill so that no such tax, fee, or increase take effect until such time as the major insurance coverage provisions of the bill, including the insurance exchanges, have begun. The Committee is further instructed to maintain the deficit neutrality of the bill over the 10-year budget window.”

I implore every Patriot that reads this to contact BEN :
Despite a one-on-one meeting Tuesday with President Barack Obama that lasted 30 minutes, Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., said he still has concerns about abortion and other issues. Nelson, the only known holdout among 60 senators whose votes are needed to move the bill, said it had been his third meeting in eight days with the president.

He needs to know that Christians all over the country appreciate his efforts.

They just reported on the news that Senator Ben Nelson received a threatening phone call from the White House that he better vote for this healthcare bill or (don’t remember the name of the airbase) a strateic Air Force base will be shut down in Nebraska! This is treason on the White House’s part. They should not be using our military to make threats for votes! I hope Senator Nelson won’t cave in to this threat. Senator Lieberman was also bullied…telling him to act Jewish and threats of firing his wife from the breast cancer organization she belongs too! They have definitely over stepped their bounds!
I agree with CW! Everybody send Senator Nelson an email and tell him that we are behind him and not to let those elitists bully or threaten his vote either way! He should put his principles before his party. I hope he does that!

Maybe Kay Bailey ought to quit giving our money away in stimulus packages that are unconstitutional, then i might believe she actually has our best interests at heart. This is a weak effort to make people think she isn’t a RINO.

I sent an email to Ben Nelson’s office and encouraged him to “stand strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” I told him to stand against the bullying of Washington D.C. I let him know that we Christians and conservatives are with him.
SJK can you provide links to the information that you posted about Nelson and Lieberman being bullied?
Ms. Hutchison continue stalling and picking this HR3962 to pieces. Keep raising new questions and bringing issues into the light. Drag things out so the senate won’t vote on HR3962 until…..NEVER! Then will come the elections of 2010. If you have your hand on the pulse and understand the sentiments of this nation, you know what’s going to happen in 2010.

I got the news about Joe Lieberman being pressured and bullied on Fox News. The threats about Joe Lieberman’s wife were on Fox News too! Do you remember when Obama got all the Democratic Senators to talk to them about their votes on healthcare. Before that meeting, Joe Lieberman was going to vote NO on the healthcare bill….when he came out of that meeting he was going to suppert and vote for the bill! What do you think went on in that meeting? I know that all the Democrats including Obama were very angry at Joe Lieberman and were going to do and say anything they could to get him to change his vote. Go to Fox News…the reported what happened with Joe Lieberman as well as Senator Ben Nelson….and look what they did with Mary Landrieu to get her vote!

Thanks SJK. I don’t have a T.V. (really), so the only Fox new I get is from the radio or if I visit their website and I’ve never visited their website.
Hey all, check this news story out from OneNewsNow regarding a hidden tax for married people in the “beloved” ObamaCare Bill.
‘Marriage penalty’ buried in healthcare bills
Jim Brown – OneNewsNow – 12/14/2009 6:00:00 AM
A Republican candidate for Congress in Minnesota says “a huge marriage penalty for the American middle class” is hidden in both the House and Senate healthcare bills.
Former Minnesota state legislator Allen Quist points out that two single people each making $30,000 per year would pay $1,320 combined for private health insurance if the Pelosi House bill was in effect now. However, if the two individuals were to marry, they would pay a combined cost of $12,000 a year for the same level of insurance under the Pelosi bill.
Quist notes this “marriage penalty” extends all the way from a two-person combined income of $58,280 to $86,640. The GOP candidate notes that that $28,000 spread encompasses a large number of Americans.
“Let me be very blunt,” says the House hopeful. “Tyrants know that marriage and family are the basic core of society and the basic foundation of government — and if people are going to control others, they see marriage and family as their number-one threat.
“So tyrants always want to weaken the family,” he concludes, “and that’s what this bill is designed to do. And it’s designed to do it very effectively.”
Quist says when reading the health bill, most Americans will not likely notice the “marriage penalty,” but it immediately stood out to him because the legislation is based on the federal poverty level, a subject he knows well.
