Governor Greg Abbott today sent a letter directing Texas state agencies to launch investigations into any potential child care funding fraud taking place in Texas. Under the direction of the Governor, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), in collaboration with the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), will further implement anti-fraud measures and launch investigations into any potential fraud and misdirection of Texas taxpayer dollars. 

We noted yesterday that under the left’s hero, Nicolas Maduro, 80% of Venezuela's citizens have fallen into poverty, and nearly half are in extreme poverty. Oil production has crashed, and none of the revenues have enriched the citizens. Maduro no doubt is in line to win the Nobel Peace Prize. To help alleviate poverty and get the oil industry up and running, the newly elected government should reprivatize the oil industry.

Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock today said state sales tax revenue totaled $4.3 billion in December 2025, 5.7 percent more than in December 2024. The majority of December sales tax revenue is based on sales made in November and remitted to the agency in December. Total sales tax revenue for the three months ending in December 2025 was up 5.2 percent compared with the same period a year ago. Sales tax is the largest source of state funding for the state budget, accounting for 58 percent of all tax collections.

Congressman Tony Gonzales (R-Texas), alongside U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-Texas), Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), and Congresswoman Julie Johnson (D-Texas), introduced bipartisan legislation to modernize infrastructure at U.S. land ports of entry (LPOEs) and in the surrounding communities that support them. The Strong Borders, Strong Communities Act would create the first dedicated funding stream for the construction and modernization of land port of entry-related infrastructure to enhance border security.

Governor Greg Abbott announced that a Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) grant of $4.8 million has been extended to the Texas Quantum Institute (TQI) at The University of Texas (UT) at Austin for the establishment of QLab, a quantum-enhanced semiconductor metrology facility in Austin. The QLab metrology facility will serve the Texas semiconductor and emerging quantum industries, as well as support academic research.
