Rep. Williams Urges Relief for Federally Impacted School Districts During COVID-19

"The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic extend far beyond the virus itself and we must equip impacted schools across Texas and our nation to effectively navigate this unprecedented challenge.”

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – (KILLEEN, TX) – Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25), a representative of Fort Hood and the Killeen Independent School District, today sent a bipartisan letter with Congressman Mike Levin (D-CA-49) to the House Appropriations Committee urging that financial relief for federally impacted school districts be included in future COVID-19 legislation.

“Impact Aid is critical to providing students in areas of federally impacted schools with the highest standard of education possible. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic extend far beyond the virus itself and we must equip impacted schools across Texas and our nation to effectively navigate this unprecedented challenge,”
said Congressman Williams. “As the Fort Hood and Killeen areas continue to grow, it is vital they receive increased federal assistance to educate the growing Central Texas student populations. I thank Congressman Levin for joining me in this effort and I will always proudly advocate for military connected families in the 25th District.”

“The Killeen Independent School District applauds the commitment of Congressman Williams to ensure federally impacted school districts in Texas, and across the Nation, are provided financial relief during the COVID-19 crisis. There are many unforeseen challenges and expenses related to educating children online, and it is critical for us to ensure our military connected children can continue to reach their maximum potential,”
said Killeen ISD Superintendent Dr. John Craft.

The letter reads: “The Impact Aid program provides critical support to over 1,200 school districts that serve some of the our most vulnerable student populations, including Native American and military connected children.

“The next COVID-19 response legislation should include funds specifically designated for Impact Aid schools. The funds will not only replace failing infrastructure but also provide these disadvantaged schools the resources they need to transition to online learning, meet the social and emotional needs of students, and provide wrap-around services.”
