White Under Attack for Allowing Trial-Lawyer Funded “Coward” Ad

Military Veterans stand by Perry, denounce PAC’s “Coward” attack

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Veterans from across Texas came out in support of Governor Rick Perry Tuesday afternoon, saying they were outraged at an attack ad purchased by the liberal, trial lawyer-funded “Back to Basics PAC”.  The full-page ad, which ran in newspapers across Texas, calls Gov. Rick Perry a “coward.’

“This Back to Basics PAC is bankrolled by Houston trial lawyer Steve Mostyn, a man who has made his millions filing lawsuits that have made Texans’ home insurance rates skyrocket in the past few years, while making himself extremely rich,” said Air Force veteran Bryan Preston, the Republican Party of Texas’ spokesman.

“Bill White should rein in his irresponsible trial lawyer allies,” said Preston.

“Bill White should distance himself from Mostyn immediately and return all political contributions that Mostyn has given him,” Preston said.

Added Texas Land Commissioner & Marine Corps veteran Jerry Patterson: “Those who serve in our armed forces today, as well the veterans who have served before, certainly cannot be described as ‘cowards.’

“Bill White should be ashamed of himself for supporting the gutless attacks his supporters have levied against Governor Perry,” said Navy SEAL and Afghanistan veteran Macrus Lutrell.

“While Bill White lacked the courage to serve in the military, Governor Perry enlisted in the Air Force after college and truly knows what it means to have served our nation. Bill White is a complete phony who claims to support the military but has instead tried to restrict military voting rights,” said Lutrell.

‘Bill White needs to take a long look at himself and maybe he will see what a coward really looks like,” Lutrell said.

Perry flew C-130 tactical airlift aircraft in the Middle East as an officer in the United States Air Force.

Said Preston, “Mostyn’s agenda is to overturn Texas’ successful tort reform so that he can keep filing lucrative lawsuits, and trial lawyer Bill White is only too happy to help out with that. If anyone is the ‘coward’ here, it’s Bill White for hiding behind various front groups and attacking our great Governor from the weeds.”

“Only someone who never served in the armed forces would have the gall to call a veteran of the United States Air Force a coward,” said US Navy veteran and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Mike Thornton.

“Bill White has a lot of nerve allowing his trial lawyer buddies to attack Governor Perry, a proud veteran who truly supports the men and women of the military. Not only has Governor Perry worn the uniform of the United States, but there has been no better friend to returning veterans and specifically Medal of Honor recipients than Governor Perry,” Thornton said.

Said Patteron, “While political discourse makes our democracy strong, it borders on the bizarre for a candidate who has never served in the armed forces to call another who has a coward.

“Bill White may not have personally made the charge, but those who work for him did, and Bill White should repudiate it. It’s the right thing to do,” Patterson said.

Land Commissioner Patterson oversees the Texas Veterans Land Board, as well as the Texas Veterans Commission.

The attacking of Perry by Mostyn can best be explained by the following statement in the article. “Said Preston, “Mostyn’s agenda is to overturn Texas’ successful tort reform so that he can keep filing lucrative lawsuits, and trial lawyer Bill White is only too happy to help out with that.” So we can see where a lawyer would help out lawyers if Bill White gets elected governor. And as the article further states, “This Back to Basics PAC is bankrolled by Houston trial lawyer Steve Mostyn, a man who has made his millions filing lawsuits that have made Texans’ home insurance rates skyrocket in the past few years, while making himself extremely rich.”

The veteran issue is only a smokescreen for the real prize that stands to be gained……big $$$$BUCKS$$$$ by trial lawyers. I don’t want my home insurance rates to skyrocket anymore due to frivilous law suits.

This “Texas Insider Report” looks awful like a Texas GOP press release that was just distributed about an hour and a half ago. Is Texas Insider = Texas GOP?

A note of clarification. Mr. Patterson oversees the General Land Office and the Veterans Land Board. The Texas Veterans Commission is an agency directed by a commission of appointees who serve at the request of the Governor of the state of Texas. The agency ensures Texas veterans receive the maximum benefits allowed in the areas of VA claims, Employment and Education as well as administration of the Fund for Veterans Assistance. In the area of employment the Texas Veterans Commission assisted 47,556 veterans enter the workforce in a 12-month period – the highest number in the nation and more than the combined total of the five most populous states. In VA claims representation the Texas Veterans Commission assisted 66,519 Texas veterans in the first ten months of fiscal 2010 and exceeded its objective for that period by nearly 10,000 cases.

First off I will forward a link to this article about Bill White to all the Veterans I have in my address book and second will make sure they are registerd to vote.

Third, it seems an awful lot of non-military service “activists” of the past are getting into office lately and the way things are going from the “D.C.” level on down is not working and certainly not freedom oriented with most policies or programs pushed through “Czars” and I am sure I am not enlightening anyone with that piece of information so it is up to us to support Rick Perry as he is “None of the Above” meaning he’s one of us, whether you served in the military or not and are a taxayer, American, Texan who just loves his country and of course ”Great State”.

Support of Bill White is support for Obama and his Regime, Sanctuary Cities and forever rising taxes as he did each year in Houston.

I know people that moved out of Houston due to White’s policies and I don’t want to see those policies of ”Tax and Spend” turned loose on Texas.

With ”Veterans” on the watch list along with terrorists we have to choose our leaders more wisely than we have in the past, Mr. Perry deserves our vote, Mr. White does not!!! Plain and simple…

First of all, regardless of who’s side you’re on in the election, if Perry won’t debate, then he is a coward. Besides cowardice, why shouldn’t he debate White? When was the last time a gubernatorial candidate refused to debate?

Second, I’m familiar with Mostyn’s work. If a homeowners’ insurer won’t pay a valid claim, it should be sued and sued very hard. Good for Mostyn if he has helped people who have lost their homes get their insurer to pay when they try to screw a homeowner that just lost everything to a natural disaster.

White is not the man for the job and a Democrat liberal to the core. who would allow more Mexicans to cross over. Being Mayor of a Houston does not qualify him to be governor. They list all his good accomplishments and fail to look at the liberal platform he supports of the Democrat party. Abortion, gay or same sex marriage to name a few.

LJ ~ It takes two (2) to debate. The coward here hides behind $5 million dollars provided by his trial lawyer buddy.

Your analysis is simplistic, in the extreme. Trial lawyers are *layers* below pond scum. If you’re all that familiar with the “trial lawyer set” you will also know that a given homeowner ends up with *less* than would normally be the case, while the trial lawyer rakes it in. Have you, perchance, checked into their billing rate per hour X billable hours?

Actually, I say hold off on any debate. Just let that Houston parasite continue infuriating more and more groups of people.

I cannot support Perry until he stop using poor people as his stepping stool. He is a coward, he jumped on the Tea Party bandwagon early on, because it was politically viable. A true patriot, and a true Texan, would not ignore ethics and morals just because they want to get elected to a third term.

I will be voting for Bill White unless Perry can prove he is not just another tool of the far right. Texas is too big for the governor to be an extremist.

Nic: Stop equating someone who has middle-right (not even very conservative) views, like Governor Perry, as an “extremist”. Do that, and you brand yourself with the leftist label. You toss around serious accusations without ANY supporting evidence (i.e., that the Governor is “using poor people as his stepping stool,” and is ignoring ethics and morals solely to get re-elected). That’s just more “mudslinging,” Nic.

Did you even read the nasty, hate-filled ad financed by Steve Mostyn, the Houston trial lawyer? Don’t you imagine that he has a vested financial interest in supporting his fellow trial lawyer in this race? Veterans of our armed forces and those currently serving this nation in uniform are NOT amused by this affront against Governor Perry, a former U.S. Air Force officer; and you can wager a considerable sum that they will remember it next November!

Lie down with dogs, Mr. White, and you will definitely wake up with fleas. An apology for this “Back to Basics” PAC ad should already be drafted by your campaign. Texans eagerly await your mea culpa.

My only question is why we Texans allowed the Trial Lawyers to control Judges, The Legislature, and actually elected Democrats to the Highest Elected Offices in Texas.

With all the great things Governor Perry has done for Texas, how could anyone vote for Bill White. My Daughter, Son-In-Law and Granddaughters live in Houston and I know how bad Bill White was for Houston.

Battle Plan for Democrat Candidates: You KNOW you can’t win on the issues that are important to the voters in this State, so use a sycophant to go real negative and sling as much nasty, personal rhetoric as possible, in hopes that it will stick with the ignorant. Then, when challenged on it, claim innocence and say, “I knew nothing about those ads villifying the character of my opponent.” It’s the “politics of personal destruction” and culpable deniability. Bill, you shold be ashamed!

One item not previously mentioned is that during White’s term as mayor of Houston, he turned the city into a “sanctuary city”. That was certainly a big help to Houstonians and Texans. Would he turn Texas into a sanctuary state?

Just in case anyone has forgotten. When a city becomes a sanctuary city, it is willfully violating state and federal laws. That is not the kind of governor I can support.

Jerry Patterson, the Texas Land Commissioner & Marine Corps veteran takes a page from the Swift-Boat crowd to gain favor with Perry, the longest serving Governor in the History of Texas. Ricky was first elected in 1998 as Lt Gov, elected Gov in 2002 and reelected in 2006. If Ricky is reelected for another term, that’s a total of 14 years. It would probably be easier to replace the title of Governor with Emperor. With a third term, we may succeed from the Union, as he has threatened to do. This is treason, and contradicts the core beliefs of “uniformed” veterans who have served the country.

Jerry, the “coward” designation is because Perry stated he would not debate White until he disclosed his financial records. White complied, and Ricky continued to refuse to debate the issues of Texas. Not only is he cowardly for refusing debates, now he’s lying. Why shouldn’t Gubernatorial candidates demonstrate to voters why they merit the votes of Texans? If we reelect Ricky, should we do it only because he served in the Air Force, or should we ask what he intends to do about the high rate of Texas student drop-outs, and basement rankings of student attainment? What does he intend to do with the current Texas’ 18 Billion deficit, which now equals 20% of the upcoming state budget? Should we assume that his veteran status gives this candidate a “free pass” to another 4 years as guardian of Texas Treasury? Since he’s a Republican, and tax increases are out of the question, he must be getting ready to increase user fees, or butcher the budget by eliminating services. As a voter, I would dearly love to know what services he is planning to be curtail.
If Ricky won’t debate, how are we to know what he stands for in the coming 4 years? Should I vote for him based on your rational that he served in the Air Force? I think not, and I won’t!

@John Ryan

There is a big difference between Bill White and Barack Obama, and anyone who tries to say they share similar policies or backgrounds is lying. Support for Bill White is not support for “Obama and his regime”

Bill White is a businessman, former energy executive and was the three-term mayor of the fourth largest city in the country, Houston.  Bill White believes in balanced budgets and he doesn’t support overspending.

Bill has certainly worked with the president on issues concerning Texans. But when he was mayor of Houston, he also worked with the Bush administration.  This is how you run the largest city in Texas– you bring people together to solve problems.

Bill White doesn’t support cap and trade (read more: http://action.shootstraighttexas.com/page/invite/sst6).  With regards to healthcare reform, while Bill supports the prospect of more opportunities for affordable insurance plans, but he has said on many occasions that the costs of the bill were too high and that he would have voted against it.

Finally, in June, the EPA took over the permitting process from the TCEQ.  This was more of a result of failed leadership than of oppressive Washington politics– the actions by the EPA started under George Bush. Bill White made it clear that he would take back permitting authority from the feds and put it back into the hands of Texans.

White has aligned himself with the far left trial lawyers, big spending, deficit building statists in D.C., and the rabid ACORN & Organizing for America crowd. The fact is, Texas today leads the nation economically because of Conservative leadership. At the end of July, 1100 people were moving to Texas everyday because we don’t have an income tax and the business climate allows the private sector to thrive, even in the failing Obama economy. White first wanted to run for the U.S. Senate, and then switched to run for Governor. White is a Liberal Democrat. Mostyn & his “Back to Basics” PAC are nothing more than a funding mechanism & mouthpiece for Obama’s Organizing for America. Texas doesn’t need White, Mostyn, or Obama.

Since my home is just a tad south of Houston, I know what Bil White did (actions do speak louder than words); Like CWJensen, I don’t think perry has anything to gain by debating white: why do the expression “don’t argue with fools for people may not know the difference?” keep popping up in my feeble brain?
