Tea Party Style: A 2nd American Revolution?

By Carole Hornsby Haynes, Ph.D.

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – With the midterm general election behind us, it appears that we are indeed engaged in a 2nd American Revolution … this time at the ballot box. The harsh reality of how far we have strayed from our roots & our Constitutional principles has finally sunken in & shaken us to the very core of our souls.

In recent months many Americans have inwardly, and sometimes in hushed tones to trusted family members & friends, wondered whether we were facing another violent revolution to regain our unalienable rights from an abusive government and elitist demagogues.

In these “times that try men’s souls,” the philosophical warning by Thomas Jefferson has never been more relevant than it is now, “….God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion…what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms.”

For decades we have been lulled into euphoria in our land of plenty, ignoring the blatant signs that our constitutional republic form of government was being transformed with our own consent as we elected liberal bureaucrats to permanent positions in Washington.

Now the sleeping giant has been awakened and the American people indeed are preserving their spirit of resistance and taking up arms as they hit the streets carrying large homemade signs as their weapons, marching in Tea Party protests, and campaigning door-to-door for conservative candidates.

People who have never been involved in politics now are taking their civic duties seriously.  Small pocket copies of the Constitution are seen everywhere as people study the founding principles of a government so unique that it led to the rise of the greatest nation on earth with people from foreign lands flocking to its shores.

Even children were engaged in this midterm general election as they teamed with parents in canvassing for candidates, learning real time civic lessons.

Employing a multiplicity of technological methods for communication, Tea Party members, our modern day Minutemen, have provided a highly mobile, rapidly deployed force that has allowed activists to respond immediately, whenever and wherever.

The voices of the people were harnessed in numerous midterm elections around the country as we changed the guard to conservative candidates who vowed to lead our ship of state back into safe waters.

Now in post election days, we are hearing more rhetoric and more promises of change from once sneering politicians, who considered us the “enemies” but offered that we “…can come for the ride, but…gotta sit in back.”

Let us hope they understand the real message underlying these midterm elections…that we refuse to be governed by big government or political parties.  Rather, we intend to be governed by ourselves.

As we begin our long march forward, we must not forget the words of William Cullen Bryant, “Nor yet, O Freedom! Close thy lids in slumber for thine enemy never sleeps.”

Signaling that we will no longer sit passively while Rome burns, on November 2, 2010 at the ballot box we the people “fired the shot heard round the world.”

With this first victory behind us, we will continue our fight to regain our independence from an encroaching, bloated government and power hungry, self-serving bureaucrats in this Second American Revolution!

This war is just beginning. We must harness the power of the voices of the people.

  1. Amen, Christian. There are so many of us zealots clinging to our guns and our Bibles that it is downright frightening, especially here in the wilds of Texas.

  2. Bargain Citizen, let me add some humor to a quote of yours. You said, ” Wasington has dug a hole so deep that I believe our salvation may require unleashing the potential of America in a way that cannot be accomplished with the current layout.”

Humor: “Washington has dug a hole so deep that the people in China will think that our digging is an infestation of ground hogs in their land.”

Carole, thanks for the column. I too have experienced the following statement that you made. “In recent months many Americans have inwardly, and sometimes in hushed tones to trusted family members & friends, wondered whether we were facing another violent revolution to regain our unalienable rights from an abusive government and elitist demagogues.” The lefties don’t know how close they pushed us to the point of bearing arms. Our country still isn’t “out-of-the-woods” on that issue. I think the peaceful revolution is the choice of most of us but if we have to bear arms, so be it!

  3. I do not trust John Boehner either. I am not sure that he really understands what this election was about.

We are going to have to keep relentless pressure on the elected Republicans in order to get them to do the things that people want and will benefit our country. I just hope that we do our jobs.

  4. One other thing that might be considered is the flight of manufacturing to foreigh countries. We (the government) has encouraged this in the past and up to the present with onerous taxes and regulations.

  5. Sounds Familiar………………………….Recall really scares the Hell out of them and should.
Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman have the Elitist Crowd and the Media wetting their collective pants.
Now one of my new favorite ladies to lead America back to greatness http://www.kristiforcongress.com/
will see what she can do to Washington.
I am hoping Carole will actively seek office in the next election and Dr Donna will go after the BIG RAT Dogget again.
Get busy folks the next two years should be INTERESTING to say the least:)

  6. Nice summary. Indeed, this war is just beginning. We just fired the first sustained round of volleys via the ballot box.

However, the natural inertia of government is against us and there are many uncertain twists and turns ahead, potentially including a level of economic calamity the likes of which most of us have never seen. Massive inflation, deflation, insolvency…who knows what lies down the road. All I know is that I no longer trust those who pull the levers.

Our government is broken, full of systemic problems that will be difficult to overcome. I say that we must bring adequate pressure to bear to produce substantial change in this system. It is in fact our government that needs reform.

For starters, the IRS should be abolished along with taxing productivity. Wasington has dug a hole so deep that I believe our salvation may require unleashing the potential of America in a way that cannot be accomplished with the current layout.

The current system allows government to pick winners and losers in countless ways, it begs for interference by an array of well-monied interests. How much real change can the people expect without changing these equations?

We must also return power to the states and the people where it rightfully belongs. Government does not work because it has strayed too far from the design of our beloved Constitution. If we are serious about a proper re-balance of power than we must repeal the 17th Amendment and return leaders chosen by the states to the U.S. Senate.

As it stands now, the U.S. Senate does not, nor ever will, have members who have the interests of the states at heart. Because this body confirms members of our judiciary, we likewise lack judges who have proper respect for the 10th Amendment or sound limtations on the scope of central government.

A balanced budget amendment, an amendment to force Congress to live under the laws it makes for everyone else and Right to Recall measures are among other initiatives that must be considered.
