Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – “Hispanic Republicans of Texas is proud to deliver the new generation of Hispanic Republican office holders who were victorious on Tuesday,” said George Antuna, Jr., co-founder of the Hispanic Republicans of Texas. “These candidates have won their elections and represent the future of Texas,” said Antuna.
In an effort to promote more Latinos in Texas to run for public office, the Hispanic Republicans of Texas (HRT) officially launched late July announcing it will help to recruit, elect, support and defend candidates interested in running for office.
Now that the November general election is over, HRT is proud to announce and introduce its new generation of newly elected Latino candidates. A press conference will be held in Austin on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 11AM at the Republican Party of Texas Headquarters.
With Hispanics representing:
- 37% of the population of Texas
- 48.6% of total students in public schools, and
- 50% of the population growth,
- only a fraction are elected officials.
With numbers comes a lot of power. Hispanics constitute the largest single growing community in Texas and have a profound impact on this state. We contribute to our economy as job creators, and contribute to the armed forces through our patriotism and contribute to our democracy with our vote and public service.
As it stands today, Hispanic leaders are disproportionately under-represented as elected officeholders especially as Republicans. Hispanic Republicans of Texas has been established to close the gap, build leadership within the Hispanic community and support those who are ready to serve as elected leaders of this state.
But most important, it’s our responsibility to serve the greatest state in our nation – Texas.
HRT not only actively recruits Hispanic Republicans to run for state and local office but it also provides the training and resources to help candidates.
