Calls Gov. Perry ‘True Champion’ Working On Behalf Of Taxpayers
AUSTIN, Texas – Today the Empower Texans PAC, the political action committee affiliated with Empower Texans / Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, announced that Governor Rick Perry has earned its endorsement in the Republican primary gubernatorial race.
“Texas and America sit at a crossroads, and we believe Governor Perry has the experience and personal conviction to carry on the fight for taxpayers,” said Michael Quinn Sullivan, who serves as the PAC’s treasurer. “In Rick Perry, Texas’ taxpayers have a true champion working on our behalf as our chief executive officer.”
“Governor Perry has a proven track record working on behalf of Texas’ taxpayers for the long-term health of our state. He led the successful charge in 2003 to protect our economy by bridging a $10 billion budget shortfall without a tax increase,” said Sullivan. “During his tenure as governor, he has strongly championed taxpayer protections, implemented historic transparency programs, worked to limit the growth of government, and promoted zero-based budgeting. He has encouraged a sensible regulatory environment while limiting frivolous lawsuits. He understands better than most that for Texas to continue to be a bastion of job creation and opportunity, tax increases must be off the table, and government must get out of the way of employers and employees alike.”
Sullivan said that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison continues to be an asset working on behalf of all Texans in Washington.
“We hope Sen. Hutchison will keep her seat through the end of her current term. Texas needs our senior senator leading the fight against the bad ideas under consideration by Congress, most notably socialized medicine and cap-and-trade. This is not the time for Texas to lose a strong voice in Washington. It’s even more critical than ever that Sen. Hutchison stand as a counter-balance to those who would allow the federal takeover of health care and energy. There is no better service she can provide for our state and country than continue the federal fight she has so ably waged on our behalf.”
Sullivan noted Perry, and other state leaders, would do well to consider the issues raised by Debra Medina and encourage her ongoing involvement in state policy.
“Mrs. Medina’s expertise on health care issues, particularly, will be invaluable if the fight against ObamaCare moves to the states. We are struck by Mrs. Medina’s passion for Texas and her practical, free market principles. Similarly, the concerns she has raised about bonded indebtedness at all levels of government must be addressed. We trust Mrs. Medina will remain a strong voice in Texas policy and politics for a long time to come. Gov. Perry and the Legislature should bring her talents and knowledge to bear over the next four years, allowing her to further develop her leadership and political potential.”
