TEA Parties Draw Attack from Democratic Senate Candidate Sharp
John Sharp Releases Perry Attack Video
Former Texas Comptroller and candidate for Kay Bailey Hutchison’s Senate seat, John Sharp, launched a web ad criticizing Governor Rick Perry’s recent comments about state sovereignty during the nationwide tea parties on April 15, 2009.
In the ad Sharp says, “During WWII, my father was shot in defense of the greatest country on earth and I proudly wore the uniform of a United States Army Reserve officer. So, I’m offended when it becomes acceptable for anybody to talk about Texas leaving the union.” Sharp’s ad went on to say that Perry’s talk about secession is “radical anti-American rhetoric.”
His criticisms fall in line with sharp partisan attacks like those from MCNBC’s liberal talk show hosts Chris Matthews, who called Perry a “bozo” and Rachel Maddow, who accused Perry of “flirting to the point of adultery.”
Meanwhile, Congressman Ron Paul, defended Perry’s comments, arguing the founding principles of the nation. In an interview with CNN’s American Morning Paul said, “I heard people say, well, ‘this was treason,’ they say, and ‘this is un-American.’ But don’t they remember how we came in to our being? We used secession. We seceded from England….It’s a principle of a free society. It’s a shame we don’t have it anymore.”
Paul further commented that if the principle of secession exists then the federal government would not be as intrusive into state affairs.
Affirming thoughts about states rights is currently under debate in the Texas House. Yesterday, the House Committee on State Affairs heard testimony on HCR-50, a resolution affirming states rights under the 10th Amendment. Dustin Matocha of the Young Conservatives of Texas said in his testimony, “The expansion of the Federal Government in this administration [is] especially worrisome.
When the President of the United States took an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution as the Supreme Law of the Land, he swore to uphold the entire document, not just bits and pieces he thought were relevant. The tenth amendment guarantees the sovereignty of not only each individual state, but the people of this country as well.”
Notably, Rasmussen Reports released a nationwide poll that showed 51% of Americans held a favorable view of the tea party rallies, while 32% had a very favorable view of the nationwide rallies.
Despite criticisms from John Sharp and others on the liberal side of the aisle, it appears the American people are happy with the outcome of the tea parties and the national movement to fix Washington, stop wasteful spending and affirm state sovereignty that stemmed from them.

My opinion of John Sharp went down considerably with those remarks. I previously thought that he was a Texan first and a Democrat and politician second, but it appears that I was wrong. I am very happy to realize my mistake before it cost us.
Secession is not an option that people are willing to consider at this moment, but it is an option that they may consider later. The people in the central part of the United States and particularly in Texas have a mindset that is totally different from those living on the east coast or the west coast and I don’t think Texans will submit to living like those folks.
Too bad that Ron Paul or Alan Keyes did not get the nomination as the presidential candidate. We might be on the road to recovery as a nation instead of fighting for our very existance.

This guy is soooo out of touch. There are many of us that have sacrficed and family has sacrificed for the U. S. If the problems ailing the country continues to worsen and a bunch of thugs continue to rape and pillage the Constitution and it gets no better, we have but one option, LEAVE. I told my wife a few days ago, I have never been in a business situation, I couldn’t just walk away from. Now as a prudent businessman and seeing the direction things are heading, I am concerned I am finally in a situation I cannot just walk away from — very frightening.
Sharp needs to move north or west and leave Texas alone. I know he was state comptroller, but things became a mess under his watch. We don’t need him here or in office.

Re-name him John “Dull.” Geez. The Governor made a dumb remark that I totally disagree with. But Rep. Paul is absolutely correct…we have the power and the right. The States ratified the Constitution, and like all other things, they retained the power to bolt if they wanted. They did, once, and sadly, a Republican forced them back in. The SCOTUS decided it was unconstitutional to secede again, once again totally going above their heads and beyond the reach of their jurisdiction and powers.
The 10th Amendment IS still in effect. But if the Leg wants to take up such issues, how about starting by saying “NO” to the War Powers Act of 1973…the Dept. of Education…and Roe v. Wade. These are areas that the Feds are dead wrong on, and it is supposed to fall to the States to take up such matters when Washington fails.
Geez, I sure find it funny to hear politicians start talking about States Rights now! Amusing, really.

It is a mistake to trust what any politician says these days! Especially a supporter of the present Anti-Everyting Obama! The only way that they will see that we mean business is to vote them all aout as their terms are up, and continue to have the Tea Parties! Kay Bailey is out of there—-I still have some hope for Governor Perry!

The only option we have is not secession, but rather, get up off our chairs and get active in politics. VOTE. It would also be very helpful if the party would present a candidate with qualifications and the will to win. The presidential campaign by the R’s was a pitiful joke.

Liberals either don’t get these TEA parties, or they are threatened by them. Some Republicans seemed threatened by them, too, which is why only a few prominent GOP elected officials attended nationally.

MMM, Sharp will not get my support, but then he never was going to anyways. Michael Williams gets my support for the Senate right now.
Kay Bailout and Rick the Used Car salesman will beat each other up in the primaries and the TRUE conservative, Debra Medina will be our next Governor.

I like the comments about new blood, but why are we still talking Democrats and Republicans? There are other choices, and if you keep putting the same people in office, you’re not going to get different results.

Debra Medina would be a welcome Candidate for Texas Governor! We need someone that will work for the people of this state and not for the politicians up north in d.c.
She has integrity and I can honestly say that I would trust my vote to her.

I believe in the sovereignty of the states,
very limited Federal Gov’t.,and term limits. We need radical, immediate change.
Our schools are almost dead last against those of other nations, our health care system ranks behind El Salvador’s, and we have let the Wall Street Oligarchs bed the politicians in DC.
They are now using the money we gave them for lobbying fees.
I am mad as hell and intend to join every movement for revolutionary change.

John Sharp is a Yellow Dog Democrat (Who will vote for a Yellow Dog before he will vote for a Republican)…he’ll say anything to get elected. And he’s trying to modify the message. Perry isn’t perfect, but he sticks up for TEXAS and Sharp would be a Pelosi and Reed puppet in DC!

When people really understood the Constitution they employed a novel solution called “nullification” since they rightly believed the states had the power to nullify federal laws that violated the Constitution, including the Tenth Amendment. It came about as a result of the Alien and Sedition Acts. Unfortuanately, it did not gain wide acceptance, but we should employ it today to get a host of useless and unConstitutional laws off our backs.

Sam Houston made the statement that the USA needs Texas a lot more than Texas needs the USA. This was true then and even moreso today.
Sharp brags about being having been a reserve 2nd Lt in the Army. I will see his 2nd Lt Army Reserve and raise him a S/Sgt in the Marines regular, which I was. I will put Marine Lance Cpl. up as having more leadership skills than an Army reserve 2nd Lt. I would much be going into battle led by a Marine NCO than an Army reserve 2nd Lt.
Sharp hasn’t shone any abilities of any sort in leadership. I damn would not want to rely on him for anything.

As a very strong supporter of the Demon party for 20 years, I met and supported many democrats. After the failed run for Gov John White, I realized that I was building a road for future generations of Dems, just as my Dad and the whole clan had done for years. After months of deliberation I, went partisan, voting demo for locals elections and Republican on national elections. I am sorry that I ever voted for dems, whose goal was “MONEY and POWER”, we need to start a a huge ball rolling for the return of honesty, hard working candidates to power.
I invite all to help for this endeavor and this means “ALL”, not just republicans.

I wouldn’t vote for Sharp regardless. I don’t know about Kay Bailey; maybe she should just stay with Congress. Perry looks better and better all the time. I like the way he stands up for Texas. Mac Thornberry, House of Representatives, would make a great senator. He’s honest and a true conservative. I think he’s totally fed-up with the politically-correct crowd in Washington himself. He should run, but not enough of our citizenry knows him, I guess.

Kay Bailout Hutchison is a poor excuse for a representative for our state. If you don’t believe that, write her about a controversial issue and see what you get back: a form letter that goes into the history of the legislation, who sponsored it, blah blah blah… But she won’t tell you how she’ll vote. That’s because she has no values, so she’ll vote which ever way is expedient to her political aspirations. Enough of this ditz – we can do better!
